Getting to the Center for History and New Media by car
From Washington via I-66W, take exit 60 at Route 123 South, Chain Bridge Road. Follow Route 123 through the City of Fairfax, and turn left at Braddock Road. Take your first left onto Roanoke River Road. Bear right at the fork in the road onto Patriot Circle. Follow Patriot Circle around past the Aquatic Center and turn left at Sandy Creek Way into the Sandy Creek Parking Deck.
BREAKING NEWS: Patriot Circle will be closed on Sunday morning until 11am due to a 5k. If you are driving in that morning, you should plan on parking in Lot A or Lot C and walking to Research 1 from there. See the Campus Parking Map.
The Center for History & New Media is located across the path from the parking deck on the fourth floor of the Research 1 building. Both Research 1 and the Sandy Creek Parking Deck can be found on the online campus map On Sunday morning, due to street closures, you will need to park in general visitor parking in Lot A or Lot C instead.
Getting to the Center for History and New Media by public transportation
The closest Metro station to CHNM is the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU station at the end of the Orange line. You can take the CUE Bus from the Vienna station to George Mason University. The CUE Bus also runs from the nearby Best Western and the Comfort Inn hotels: see below. The CUE Bus will drop you off at the north side of the GMU campus. Follow the sidewalk from the GMU stop south, past a clock tower and continue walking south until you arrive at the Research 1 building on your left. Sadly, the CUE Bus doesn’t run early enough on Sunday for our morning sessions, so consider grabbing a ride with other campers.
We have reserved blocks of hotel rooms for THATCampers at the Comfort Inn University Center at the conference rate of $79.99 per night. (Just tell them you’re attending THATCamp.) The Comfort Inn UC is 3 miles from CHNM and is served by the CUE bus. For more hotels, see also GMU’s Local Hotel Information.
